NWTF Names Donna Leggett V.P. of Development

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The National Wild Turkey Federation has named Donna Leggett its vice president of development.

A native of St. Simons Island, Ga., Leggett joined the NWTF staff in 1998 after a career in fundraising in Washington, D.C. In her time with the Federation, she has worked to secure funding for many NWTF programs and projects from a diverse array of generous sources, including foundations, federal and state agencies, and individuals.

As vice president of development, one of Leggett's new projects is to help create the NWTF Foundation, which will help provide permanent funding for many NWTF programs and projects.

"I really enjoy helping people have a voice in the future of conservation," said Leggett. "It's rewarding for me to find that perfect match between a donor's interests and the goals of wildlife conservation to create a win-win situation."

Leggett also noted that the NWTF's Legacy-Memorial program is special for many families. The Legacy-Memorial program provides friends and family members a way to donate in honor of a special person. Donations to the program help ensure that future generations have opportunities to experience America's outdoor traditions.

"Many families of NWTF members who have passed away tell me how much it means to them to know that their loved one's legacy will live on to support the wild turkey through a donation," Leggett said.

Helping America's hunting traditions thrive is something Leggett takes personal pride in.

"When I first came to the NWTF, I tried turkey hunting and loved it," she said. "I continue to avidly pursue wild turkeys in the spring and am truly happy when I can introduce first-time hunters to the gobbles that can get even me out of bed early. Several years ago, I had the great pleasure of calling up turkeys for my dad and for my nephew Brannon, and that was an experience that I will never forget."
