We live in a world where we are tethered to technology. Over the next several weeks Marjorie and I will be traveling across the country on a working vacation to visit family, do a few tours and meet up with some great people in the industry to collect a few interviews for HuntingInsider.com. All of this travel got us thinking about cell phone and Ipad battery chargers, so we picked up two of the EnerPlex Jumpr Slate 5K-L batteries.
We selected these chargers for two reasons. The Slate 5K-L comes with a lightning cable attached andbuilt in making it super easy to charge our iPads and my iPhone wherever we need to. The Slate 5K comes with Micro-USB cable. The unit also has a USB port to charge other devices that do not use the lightning cable. The other reason we chose this charging system is its compact size: it is only 7.5 mm (0.3 inches) thick. It is thinner than my iPhone and it slips easily into the pocket of my cargo pants and charges my phone on-the-go without even thinking about it.
For the college kids on campus, the unit also comes with binder holes that make it easy to slip into a day planner. This charger can recharge my iPhone 2-3 times and my iPad Pro one full charge with a total batter capacity of 5100mAh, more than I need for about one and a half days. I did notice that the charging cable for this unit is a micro-USB cable. This makes sense if you are getting the Slate 5K but with the Slate 5K-L why not make the input also lightning, so that I don’t have to bring an extra cable with me to keep the unit charged? It’s certainly not a big deal as I keep a micro-USB cable in my pack at all times, but it just seems odd that they would not make the jump to lightning.
Overall the unit is sturdy, solid and has won a Red Dot Design Award. There are a boatload of battery chargers on the market but this one is thin, light and easy to use. And with the lightning cable attached, it is easy to carry with me in my pants pocket, my pack or even in my iPad case.
