The Key To Harvesting That Trophy Whitetail

Hunting Tip 170

Most people will tell you that the key to getting that monster buck is hunting hard.  Yes, that is a key element; however the number one key is to scout that deer in the months prior to the opening day of bow season.  Putting out trail cameras, and establishing the buck's territory will help you pinpoint where that deer is using.  Camera placement is key to finding this deer.  The camera should be where you have seen a lot of movement in previous seasons, knowing that there is action going on in that area.  Place the cameras near springs or watering holes where you know deer are using, because in the rut where there are does, there will be bucks.  Another good camera placement in the off-season is on trails coming in and going out of food plots, perhaps you will catch these deer feeding and checking out the does.  Usually about four or five cameras will give you a good idea of exactly where and what time this buck is using.  One other very important thing to take into consideration is the moon phase, usually during a full moon these deer will travel at night, so get a good trail camera that will allow you to determine everything needed to find where the deer are using.  One other tactic to getting that monster this season is to go and actually sit in the stand or on the ground without a weapon and find what trail that buck is using.  If you follow these tactics the chance of you harvesting buck of your dreams will increase this coming hunting season.  GOOD LUCK AND GET OUT THERE!
