SOG Switchplier One Handy Multi-tool by SOG Knives

Years ago (okay, decades ago) I owned a Swiss Army multi-tool. It was probably my first pocketknife. I think I bought it at Brookstones at the shopping mall. I was a teen and it was cool to have gadgets like that.

Years later, I felt like I graduated to the next level when I bought a Leatherman. It came with more bells and whistles. It was bigger and heftier. I was in my twenties and it was handy to have gadgets like that.

Fast-forward a couple of decades. I now use the Switchplier 2.0 by SOG Knives. It’s not bigger or heftier and it doesn’t have every single tool imaginable. But it is fast, smart, and built to handle just about anything life throws my way. To boot, the Switchplier 2.0 is smaller than most in its class. It’s cool and handy to have a tool like this one!

Straight out of the box, the SOG’s Switchplier 2.0 includes:

  • ½ inch serrated blade
  • 3-sided file
  • bolt grip channel
  • bottle opener
  • can opener
  • hard wire cutter
  • medium flat screwdriver
  • needle nose pliers
  • Phillip’s screwdriver
  • ruler
  • small flat screwdriver

To date, I have used the blade to remove a splinter in my hand, the pliers to remove a broken ball pump attachment from an air pump, the small screwdriver to tighten a screw on reading glasses, and the ruler to measure squares of dough in the kitchen.

No doubt I will find use for the wire cutters and I know the medium screwdriver will assist me in popping off the left taillight assembly on my truck when the brake light inevitably goes out. The can opener will come in to play about two times in my life, but both times I will be really happy to have that option.

What do I like most about the Switchplier by SOG? It’s small and lightweight, while offering the components I use most often on a multi-tool. It slips into my purse, slides onto my belt, and fits in my hand perfectly. And it’s made by SOG. In other words, it’s cool and handy.
