We are Bowhunters Interview with Jeff Lusk

WE ARE BOWHUNTERS from Slate + Glass on Vimeo.

We are Bowhunters is an epic new short film from the team at Slate and Glass.  It speaks to the heart of what it means to be a bowhunter.

Jeff shared his video with us last night and we jumped at the chance to do a quick interview with him before he took off for the next 10 days to go elk hunting in the Pacific NorthWest.

Jeff Lusk is a 29 year old father of two who began bowhunting six years ago. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion that engulfed his life! Three years ago he started filming his own hunts and learning all he could to become one of the best videographers he could be. Mixing the two passions have led him to meet some of his best friends today.

Jeff partnered up with Nathaniel Maddux who is a full time videographer and video editor for this production. Nathanial moved from his hometown of Lebanon, MO to start his company Slate + Glass. Nathaniel works with some of the top people in the outdoor industry and has earned his credit the hard way, hard work!

We are BowhuntersHow did you come up with the idea for I am a Bowhunter?

I wanted to do a short bowhunting film that was personal, meaningful, but broad enough to touch not only hunters, but non hunters as well. I’ve seen and been part of countless back and forths with people on why hunting is good or bad. Trying to explain to non hunters why I hunt is almost impossible.
Our goal with this film was for non hunters to listen.. If they could do that they would be able to feel my emotion and attachment to hunting and do nothing but tip their hat at the end. The goal for hunters was to rally the troops! Stand up for yourself, get excited and be proud of what you do!

What kind of equipment did you use to film and edit this film?

We filmed this with a RED Scarlett and DJI Phantom 3

What are you hoping to convey to hunters and non-hunters in this film?

Our goal with this film was for non hunters to listen. If they could do that they would be able to feel my emotion and attachment to hunting and do nothing but tip their hat at the end.  The goal for hunters was to rally the troops! Stand up for yourself, get excited and be proud of what you do!

What would you tell aspiring film makers who desire to create their own works?

Very simple. Don’t sit around and wait for it to happen. If you have an idea and want it to come to life, you’ve gotta get out and do it. Even if it doesn’t turn out how you thought you will have learned something.

What’s next for your team, will we be seeing more films coming?

Slate + Glass has some work we’ve recently done with Carbon TV. As for more short films, you guys will just have to stick around and wait for them.
