Spending twenty-one days on the road teaches you a few things about battery management. With two phones and two iPads to stay connected on the road, we knew we would need a few extra chargers to keep all of those devices running.
We brought two of the Dark Energy Poseidon 10,000 mAh portable chargers + lights to keep the iPads charged and the iPhone and cell phone charged. Though our trip never kept us too far off the road, we tended to spend two to three nights camping followed by a night in a hotel. We used the iPads for managing some of the 5,000 photos we took on the trip and for navigating between national parks, restaurants and searching out unique locations to visit.
The Poseidon allowed us to charge two devices for a combined 3.4 amps output at a time. We used the 2.4 amps to charge the iPads and the 1.0 amp to charge the cell phone, usually overnight while we were sleeping. The iPad Pro that I use is a power hog and there were times we would place it on the charger midday. In most cases we could make it through the day without having to charge it.
The Poseidon comes with a Micro-USB Paracord Charging Cable. I now also have a Lightning Paracord Charging Cable that goes along with my Poseidon to keep my devices charging. These batteries are basically bombproof: they have a durability rating of MIL-STD-810G. I don’t honestly know what that means but I dropped my charger several times out of the truck and it handled everything without a scratch. The units are waterproof and can be submersed in water although I had no need to test that. And even though we couldn’t test it’s water-resistant capabilities because we had no rain on the entire trip, I would feel fine with these in my backpack in a rainstorm.
These units come with a built-in light that can work in an emergency or as tent light at night. We used this function several times. The Poseidon units we have feature Realtree Camo with orange trim and they also come in black. We found the chargers to be quality units. We like that there is a carabiner attached which allows us to clip onto our packs. The Poseidon Portable Charger has an MSRP of $99.99. For the money and the amount of battery power in these units they are a great fit for anyone looking to buy a charger. It should last years and have enough power to last days without looking for an outlet.
