More Than 60,000 Attend Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival In Oshkosh, WI

Festival Producer InterMedia Outdoors Inc. Announces Commitment to Return to Oshkosh Next Year

Oshkosh, Wisconsin – The Ninth Annual Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival attracted more than 60,000 outdoor enthusiasts of all ages August 24, 25 and 26, to the EAA Convention Grounds in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The event was filled with hands-on activities, seminars, demonstrations and exhibitions of industry-related products.

Attendees were able to experience nine specialized villages each filled with activities, seminars, demonstrations and exhibitions of industry related products. From fly fishing clinics and retriever dog demonstrations to shooting sports and archery, outdoor enthusiasts participated in dozens of hands-on sporting activities. The Festival was produced by InterMedia Outdoors, an outdoor enthusiast company that publishes a variety of outdoor magazines and produces several outdoor television shows and events, in conjunction with Ducks Unlimited, the world’s largest wetland and waterfowl conservation organization.

“The Festival was once again a great success,” said InterMedia Outdoors Event Director Cindy Caryl. “Continuing the success, we are pleased to announce that the Great Outdoors Festival will return next year to the EAA Convention Grounds in Oshkosh August 22, 23 and 24, 2008. We are looking forward to our tenth year in Oshkosh and are excited to again bring the pages of InterMedia Outdoors magazines to life, providing consumers the opportunity to try all the latest outdoor products at this one-of-a-kind event.”

The return of the Festival next year will be without longtime partner Ducks Unlimited (DU). The DU contract with InterMedia Outdoors Inc. officially expired at the close of this year’s Festival and DU has chosen not to renew the contract. DU and InterMedia Outdoors could not agree on the financial terms for a future contract so after 14 years, both organizations have amicably agreed to end their relationship and pursue other ventures individually. Long time Festival producer InterMedia Outdoors (formerly Primedia) remains committed to the enthusiastic outdoor community in Wisconsin and will continue to produce the Great Outdoors Festival in Oshkosh for the 60,000-plus outdoor enthusiasts that come to the Festival each year.

“EAA takes pride in hosting the Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival in Oshkosh,” said EAA President Tom Poberezny. “The specialized facilities of EAA are a perfect fit for the Festival and the variety of activities it offers. We are thrilled that InterMedia Outdoors has decided to continue to produce this event at the EAA Grounds. With such a large number of outdoor enthusiasts in the area, it is a perfect fit.”

“This three-day festival is not only enjoyed by Wisconsin outdoor enthusiasts, it draws attendees from all over the Midwest,” said Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Wendy Hielsberg. “In total, the event brought in more than $12 million in tourism expenditures to the Oshkosh area. That includes revenues from hotel nights, restaurants, services and more.”
