Out of the Rubble Gala

Since 9/11, the citizens of the United States have not come together as a group to say “Thank You” to our Servicemen and Women, Police, Fire Fighters and Paramedics. These incredible individuals lay their lives on the line for us every day, on both foreign and domestic soil.

On October 9th, 2010 at Cornell University located in Ithaca, New York, the nation’s largest “Thank You” event will take place. This prestigious event titled the “Out of the Rubble Gala” will be attended by 3,500 outdoor enthusiasts as well as military and other dignitaries. This event will serve as a national hug (per se) to those who have laid their lives on the line and especially those who have been wounded in battle, either overseas or on U.S. soil.

This event is solely based around the outdoors. Liberty Lodge Outfitters will be able to utilize the proceeds from this event to add on to their existing lodge plus build other larger facilities to take care of these Real American Heroes. Furthermore, they will be able to provide a relaxing setting for our wounded veterans, wounded police officers, wounded fire fighters and wounded paramedics and their respective families. Also, they will be able to purchase the equipment and hire the help required to further this goal.

We are doing this event to both thank these real American Heroes and to raise money in order to give them a place to relax and leave the dust of war behind.

Kevin Workman is the President and founder of Liberty Lodge. In July 2004, Kevin was mobilized overseas as a National Guardsman for the state of South Carolina. He spent a year in combat in Iraq and returned home wounded in 2005. Due to the injuries he sustained overseas, hewas unable to return to his civilian job with the State Police in South Carolina, and was medically retired out of the Army in 2008. During his treatment at Walter Reed Hospital and Ft. Dix, NJ, he was unsure which direction to take with his life and did not know if he would be able to return to the activities he loved so much. He was an avid outdoorsman prior to the war, but felt like that was something he could never truly enjoy again.
From that day forward, Kevin vowed to help other Veterans, Police Officers, Firefighters and Paramedics heal the wounds of war.

It was his dream to open a camp catering to wounded heroes and their families. A place where they could go to hunt, fish or just relax with other people who understand what they have been through; a worry- free trip at no cost to them. This year, that dream came true.

The “Out of the Rubble Gala” will consist of a Live and Silent Auction as well as many different raffles. Specifically being sculpted for this event, Dave Hentosh (nationally recognized accomplished outdoor sculptor) is designing the “Out of the Rubble” bronze.    This beautifully and artistically sculpture depicts our nation’s rise out of the rubble from 9/11. This sculpture is the centerpiece of this incredible, one of a kind event.
