Ka-Bar Becker Companion BK2 Review

Ka-Bar Becker Companion BK2Walking the SHOT show floor you are bound to meet some interesting characters and Friday allows you just a little bit of last minute time as things slow down and get to learn a little bit about a few folks.  This year was no exception as I got to meet Ethan Becker famed knife developer now in a partnership with Ka-Bar.  Ethan has been developing knives for years and he is an absolute character and shared a wealth of great stories with me over the 45 minutes that we got the chance to visit.  As I was hanging out with Ethan several different folks walked up and had their own knives signed by him.  SHOT show will not allow anyone to sell actual knives so I came home and found Knifehog.com online and ordered a BK2 from the Becker Knife and Tool collection.

When the knife arrived I knew it was one that would stay in my collection for years to come.  Ethan uses 1095 Cor-Van Carbon Steel which gives this knife the kind of heft to act as a real companion knife that can shave wood for fire starting as well as act as an ax for actually cutting kindling.  There is very very little that you cannot throw at this knife and not have it come through.  Whether you are skinning deer or breaking bone, this knife is going to come through it and be ready for the next task.  The knife holds a tight edge and carries a rugged handle.

The Ka-Bar Becker Companion BK2 is absolutely going to be my go to camp knife and backcountry knife for years to come.  The Ka-Bar Becker Tac Tool BK3 is most likely the next knife, I will be adding to my camp kit. I will absolutely be ordering it from KnifeHog.  The website was easy to use, the knife came in quickly and I was extremely happy in how everything was packaged.  The knife was also significantly reduced in price from the MSRP and an absolute bargain compared with other locations when I looked for this knife.

If you are in need of a go to regular camp and serious survival knife, this could be the knife you are looking for.  It is a bit on the heavy side but it is that heft that makes this knife so extremely functional in the field.  I am glad that I got to spend some time with Ethan and learn about his journey as a knife maker and a bit more about Ka-bar and I am super happy that I now own one of his great knives, it is a tool that I will use which I am sure is exactly what Mr. Becker had in mind.

Important notice about Ka-Bar Knives and Becker Knife and Tool:

Ka-Bar Cutlery has contracted with Ethan Becker to produce the BK&T line of knives. After the bankruptcy of Camillus Cutlery, Western Cutlery, and Becker Knife and Tool – there was some doubt if this line would be resurrected. Ethan was able to acquire the rights to his knives from the Camillus bankruptcy auction and with the KA-BAR manufacturing capabilities this great knife line lives again.
