Brownells, InRange TV, KE Arms Collaborate on WWSD 2020 Rifle Project

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Brownells, in collaboration with InRange TV and KE Arms, announced the launch of the WWSD “What Would Stoner Do” 2020 Rifle Project during SHOT Show 2020.

Inspired by the original InRange TV WWSD rifle project from 2017, WWSD 2020 attempts to further explore the question of what AR rifle designer Eugene Stoner might do – were he still around and had access to modern, lightweight materials and manufacturing methods.

The result is a very lightweight rifle with a polymer one-piece lower and a pencil barrel. Listed as #100-037-291 at Brownells.com, the WWSD 2020 rifle retails for $1,699.99.

WWSD 2020 Rifles will be available in Spring 2020

“We’re personally fans of InRangeTV’s work, and have been following Karl and Ian’s videos for quite some time,” said Brownells Director of Product Management Paul Levy.   “The collaboration on the WWSD 2020 was initiated after InRangeTV posted a recap of the first WWSD Project. Brownells stocked a lot of those components, and it made sense to us to reach out to see if they’d be interested in building out a complete rifle for resale.  KE Arms stepped up to assemble and manufacture the Mk3 Lower, and here we are.”

The heart of the WWSD 2020 rifle is the one-piece polymer Mk3 Lower from KE Arms.

It features several improvements over previous one-piece polymer lowers, including an improved magazine well optimized for P-Mags and D-60 drums, modernized pistol grip angle and texture, and an already-installed ambidextrous PDQ bolt release lever.

The stock will have integral M-LOK® slots and QD socket points for sling-attachment flexibility, along with an internal storage compartment for a cleaning kit or other small parts.

Not only can customers buy complete WWSD 2020 rifles, they can also shop a line of stripped and completed lowers, as well as other components for their own lightweight builds.

Other WWSD 2020 rifle components include:

An Introduction to What Would Stoner Do 2020

In the 1950s, Eugene Stoner’s ground-breaking rifle went against almost every tradition in firearms design.

He used Space-Age aluminum and composites, instead of traditional wood and steel. At the time, his ideas about gun design were considered visionary, futuristic, even radical.Today, firearms based on Stoner’s ideas are carried by every branch of the US military, employed by Law Enforcement, and owned by millions of American citizens exercising their constitutionally-guaranteed rights. Stoner’s ideas have stood the test of time, even two decades after his death in 1997.

But what if we still had Eugene Stoner around?

What if he had access to the most-modern materials and manufacturing methods? How would he make his rifle even lighter and more-capable and user-friendly?

What would Stoner Do?

That’s the question the WWSD 2020 Rifle by Ian and Karl from InRange TV attempts to answer. Available in early 2020 exclusively from Brownells, the WWSD 2020 Rifle uses tough, durable modern polymers, and high-tech manufacturing techniques to push Stoner’s genius ideas into the 21st Century.

What is the WWSD 2020 Rifle?

The What Would Stoner Do (WWSD) 2020 Rifle is based on InRangeTV’s series of videos that asked, “What would Eugene Stoner, the creator of the AR-15, do today if he had access to modern manufacturing and materials?”  The WWSD 2020 is InRangeTV’s solution to that question.  Built by KE Arms, the rifle factors in lightweight materials, streamlined features and a reliable operating system.

The heart of the WWSD 2020 is the KP-15 Polymer Lower Receiver.  The lower is lightweight and robust, with an integral buttstock, that is designed from the ground up to integrate with the lower and be molded out of polymer.  The included SLT-1 Sear Link Trigger provides a crisp, lightweight trigger pull.  Only found on the WWSD KP-15 lowers, are the PDQ ambidextrous bolt release.  In the buttstock, you’ll find a JP Silent Capture Spring System, that provides reliable function.  The buttpad on the WWSD features a trapdoor for storing cleaning supplies or tools.

Like the Lower Receiver, the Upper half is designed to be lightweight and supremely rugged.  The carbon fiber handguards allow for MLOK attachment on all sides.  The 16 inch pencil mid-length gas system barrel is capped by am A2 Flash Hider.  The included Young Manufacturing Bolt Carrier Group with HM Defense/HMB Patent bolt features a slick chrome finish, providing smooth function and ease of cleaning (note the bolt, carrier, and carrier key are chromed; the extractor and cam pin are not).  The upper receiver does not include the unnecessary forward assist, saving weight and removing a potential point of failure.  Included ambidextrous charging handle makes operation of the WWSD in a variety of positions simple and straightforward.

The WWSD 2020 Rifle from InRangeTV and KE Arms, the answer to what Eugene Stoner would do today.

The WWSD is not intended to use Back Up Iron Sights.  As Karl and Ian discussed in the videos related to this project, BUIS are essentially unnecessary with modern optics.  We are unaware of any rails that mount to the carbon fiber handguard at the correct height for mounting of BUIS.  The Carbon fiber handguards is of course well suited for mounting, lights, lasers, slings, bipods, hand stops, and vertical or angled grips.
