CMP’s Talladega Marksmanship Park Introduces New Monthly Match Awards

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has announced a new series of awards for competitors who participate in the Talladega Marksmanship Park’s Monthly 800 Aggregate and Monthly 3X600 service rifle matches.

Like other CMP Monthly events, a Monthly Match League has been designed for the 800 Aggregate and 3×600 competitions – collecting and comparing scores accumulated at each match. League awards will be based on consistent participation in the events, with the top scores used to determine overall awards. Participants must fire in a minimum of seven 800 Aggregate or 3×600 Monthly Matches to be considered.

Individual recognitions, presented at the end of the year, will include Most Improved and High Junior as well as other special award categories and prizes. The Top Three competitors with the highest overall average scores will also be recognized and presented with seasonal discounts for the following year at Talladega Marksmanship Park. Third place will receive three free Monthly 800 Aggregate Matches, second place will receive five free Monthly 800 Aggregate Matches and the overall winner will receive all Monthly 800 Aggregate Match fees paid for the 2023 shooting season. The same prize structure will be used for the Monthly 3×600 event.

Each month, the CMP offers 800 Aggregate and 3×600 service rifle events at its own Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama.

About the Monthly 800 Aggregate and 3×600 Matches:

The Monthly 800 Aggregate service rifle match is a total of 80 shots, fired at distances of 200, 300 and 600 yards in standing, sitting and prone positions. Open to new or experienced marksmen, the match utilizes Talladega’s outdoor electronic target line, meaning no need to move firing lines or perform pit duty. The service rifle Monthly 3×600 event is 60 shots at 600 yards – fired in strings of two sighting shots and 20 shots for record (the first string includes unlimited sighters). Like the 800 Aggregate, the 3×600 match utilizes Talladega’s outdoor electronic target line for competitor convenience on the range. Entry fee is $35 for adults and $25 for juniors (18 and under). About the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park:

Aptly named “The Home of Marksmanship,” the park is a worthy destination for firearm supporters and guests looking for practice, competition and mindful learning opportunities. Featuring CMP electronic targets and scoring monitors that can only be found at the 500-acre facility, the park regularly hosts rifle, pistol and shotgun events all year long. The CMP’s Unknown Distance Range at Talladega also allows guests to practice their skills in the field of over 100 steel targets, out to 625 yards, while the 20-lane life-size 3D target Archery Range provides even more marksmanship fun at the Park.

The public is welcome daily, all year long, to test out their firearms or to simply take a tour of the grounds. Off of the firing line, the Club House holds a fully stocked Pro Shop that includes an exclusive collection of rifles, ammunition, marksmanship accessories and CMP memorabilia that is always open during park hours.

The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park offers Rifle classes, along with Pistol and Shotgun classes, which introduce new marksmanship to the sport. The class includes both classroom and live fire. Find out more details by contact Bret Lankford at blankford@thecmp.org
