Outdoor Gear Reviews

Danner Vital Boot Review by Ryan Spellman

Since 1932, Danner has been making the majority of their boots right here in the United States.  Handcrafted in Portland, Oregon, Danner boots have been on my feet on many hunting and hiking trips over many years.  I have always been a tremendous fan of Danner boots so when the team contacted me about doing a review, I was extremely excited.

I tested out the Danner Vital 400g boots in Mossy Oak.  I am a solid size 13 and these boots as well as the Danner boots I have owned in the past, fit solidly and snugly.  One of the things I like about Danner boots is that they work in to fit your foot quickly with almost no break-in period.  Over the past 45 days, I have been wearing the Danner boots on my trips outdoors and within just a few days the boots were broken in.  They are as solid and comfortable as can be.

The boots came in Mossy Oak Breakup Country Camo pattern, a bonus as it matches most of my gear.  They are perfect for our fall hunting here in Nebraska.  With archery season for deer beginning in September and archery and shotgun season for turkey, this has been a busy fall. I’ve worn these boots during two successful spot and stalk turkey hunts since the fall opener with both archery and shotgun.  All told, I’ve already logged in 25 days in the field wearing these boots.  The Danner Vital boots are as quiet as they are comfortable which is perfect for the spot and stalk hunting I usually participate in.

A favorite feature of the boots is the Danner Dry System: a 100% waterproof barrier that allows moisture to escape without letting water in.  This keeps my feet dry and comfortable all day long.  I have submerged these boots up to the laces in puddles and trekked through dew soaked grass on the way to my blinds and the waterproofing has held up.  My feet have remained dry. No need to switch out boots mid-day.  I’ve opted to wear the Vitals several times this fall in conditions I normally would have reached for my rubber boots.  The waterproofing system works well, they are much quieter and lighter than my rubber mud boots, and definitely a more comfortable boot for all day use.

These boots are a quiet, lightweight, waterproof, comfortable pair of boots for all day use. Overall, I feel they are a really great pair of hunting and hiking boots. Check them out online at Danner.com.
