OUTDOORS TOMORROW FOUNDATION SPORTING CLAYS SHOOT TO BENEFIT THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN NATIONWIDE
Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation, the leading provider of outdoor skill, safety and conservation curriculum to schools nationwide, hosts its annual Outdoors Adventure Cup sporting clays shooting competition November 3rd at the Defender Outdoors Clay Sports Ranch.
The event supports OTF’s mission of promoting outdoor education and wildlife conservation in 719 middle and high schools nationwide, a number that is steadily increasing.
“It’s a day of clay shooting and camaraderie that helps young people across the country learn about outdoors safety and conservation,” said OTF Board Chair Kyle Shidler. “What could be more fun and more impactful?”
In addition to the shooting competition, the Outdoor Adventure Cup features live music, drinks and dinner, a silent auction, raffle and awards. Registration starts at 2 p.m., shooting flights begin at 3:00 p.m. with dinner and celebration at 6 p.m. Defender Outdoors Clay Sports Ranch is at 8270 Aledo Rd. in Ft. Worth.
Individual entry fee is $200, and there are a variety of team sponsorship opportunities.
Last year’s shoot raised almost $80,000 for the organization from over 250 participants. This year Outdoor Adventure teachers from Ft. Worth Independent School District will serve as volunteers.
OTF’s Outdoor Adventures program is a fun, interactive course where students are taught lifelong skills using an integrated, 34-unit curriculum comprised of math, science, writing and critical thinking skills. The 290 detailed lesson plans cover angler education, archery, hunter education, boater education, orienteering, survival skills, camping, outdoor cooking, challenge courses, backpacking, mountain bike camping, paddle sports, rock climbing, shooting sports, CPR/first aid and fauna, flora and wilderness medicine. OA teachers can pick units specific to their region and local ecosystems.
Founded in 1981 in Dallas, Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation is a public nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. For many schools, grant money offsets the cost of the program, plus OTF offers matching funds for equipment as new schools join. The resulting classes can be taught as a P.E. course, local elective or with agricultural science and wildlife management.
The Outdoor Adventures education program is offered in 719 schools in 44 states nationwide with more than 75,000 students participating each year and 350,000 program graduates. Each OA student spends 180 hours learning outdoor education per year. The program has totaled 11 million classroom hours of outdoor education to date.
