When Jack Crosby and his tomboy nine-year-old daughter Katy head out to the hunt club for a weekend of turkey hunting, the plans for a perfect father/daughter weekend are shattered after tucking his little daughter into bed. A band of redneck drug dealers shows up to rob the remote hunt club. In order to protect his daughter, Jake makes a split second decision and pulls off the first shot taking out the ring leader of this band of criminals allowing his daughter and him to escape. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. As a hunter, I am passionate about reading great books focused on hunting and while the premise for this story is a hunting story it really takes quite a left turn. The mystery and suspense of a real man making split decisions to protect his family minute by minute through the swamps left me excited to turn the pages and follow along throughout the story. I do not recommend bringing this book into the deer stand because you will not look up from the pages of The Dummy Line and those big bruiser bucks are going to walk right on by. Save The Dummy Line for the hunting lodge or a rainy weekend sitting by the fireplace.
