2023 AGLOW CONFERENCE TO HOST INNAUGURAL FISHING TOURNAMENT

Poised to take advantage of Lake Bemidji right out the back of the host hotel, the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers will be holding a fishing tournament during its upcoming conference on September 19th.

The tournament, hosted by the Fish Donkey app, will take place Tuesday morning from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Prizes will be awarded for big fish and best three-fish stringers based on length, as monitored by the crew at Fish Donkey in three categories; walleye, panfish, and pike/musky.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Fish Donkey to put on this tournament during the conference,” said Mark Smith, Executive Director of AGLOW. “With them here to talk about their app, but also to show our members how it works just made too much sense for everyone involved. With Lake Bemidji right out the back door, we couldn’t not do something like this. Next year looks to have a very similar setup, so hopefully this is something that becomes a bit of a tradition,” he added.

Joining Fish Donkey in sponsoring the tournament are Smith’s Sporting Group, St. Croix Rods, KastKing, Flambeau, Rugged Road Outdoors, and Northland Tackle, which is headquartered in Bemidji.

“So much of the angling world revolves around Minnesota and Bemidji; it’s great to be able to celebrate that,” said Smith.

In addition to the stringer and big fish categories, there are two wildcard winners for anyone who enters a fish in the Fish Donkey app during the tournament. These winners will be selected randomly, so the smallest fish in the tournament could still take home a prize package. AGLOW will also crown the first ever AGLOW Conference Angler of the Year, going to the angler that logs the best combined stringers across all categories. Finally, on Thursday night, as the conference concludes, the People’s Choice winner will be selected from online and social interaction. All winners must be present at Tuesday’s lunch to claim their prizes.

“This isn’t just about catching big fish, this is about enjoying our time in the field together and promoting Bemidji, AGLOW, and all our wonderful sponsors,” Smith concluded.

The tournament is open to all members, media, corporate, or tourism in good standing present at the conference. Registration will take place in the Fish Donkey app. Those registered will be given a bump board, courtesy of Smith’s Sporting Group when they check in at conference registration.
