The 5.11 Tactical Roll Top Covert Boxpack was developed for speed, agility and dependability and looks as good in the airport as it does walking down the street. The main TacTec compartment is designed to remain covert and provide you fast, easy access to your concealed carry weapon or backup. Side pockets are easily accessed for additional clips of ammunition and the pack is very well thought out. The main compartment holds a ton of gear with two access points, one through the roll top and the other through a zipper on the top behind the straps. The Boxpack easily holds our giant 17-inch Macbook.
The pack functions well, looks good and provides a comfortable feel on the back. An adjustable slide sternum strap and padded should straps allows me to wear this pack all day without the usual sore shoulders. I loaded this pack up with about 35 lbs. of gear on a recent trip to the headquarters of Milwaukee Tool and spent a few days with this pack on my shoulders as we learned all about some of the coolest tools in the market.
5.11’s Covert Boxpack comes with a water resistant finish to keep your gear dry and the zippered bottom panel came in very handy throughout the day. The pack is functional and well built and basically bombproof for my trip up north. I would carry this pack on these kinds of urban trips in the future.
I would like to see a side handle on this pack so I could grab it by the side and go. I also would love a side zipper into the main compartment. I carry a large camera and I use it frequently throughout my trips. A side zipper would allow me easier access to my camera on a regular basis. With the roll top, the camera always slid to the bottom of the pack and digging it out got old quickly.
Overall, the pack looks as good as it performs. The ability to slide a pistol into the TacTec compartment and off your belt makes this particular pack a winner for those interested in options for daily carry.
Check out 5.11 Tactical if you are in need of a great pack for urban use.
