5 Great Ways to Get Your Partner On Board With Your Outdoor Trip Plans

Getting involved in outdoor adventures together with your partner can have numerous benefits to your relationship as well as to both of you as individuals. For instance, outdoor trips let you encounter new experiences and create lifelong memories together.

Besides providing stress relief, going on an outdoor adventure together is also a chance to spend quality time together, which can help strengthen your bond as a couple.

But, as you may already know, not everyone is the outdoorsy type. And whether you’re thinking of camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, mountaineering, or skiing, one thing is for sure. Your partner may sometimes need a little convincing before they agree to get on board or be part of your plans from the word go.

Luckily, here are a few great ways to get your partner on board with your outdoor trip plans.

1. Highlight the Benefits

One of the best things you can do is to explain why going outdoors is good for you and your relationship. Maybe you’re planning a family camping trip for a chance to reconnect or to get away from everyday stress. Perhaps your relationship needs a little distraction or you clearly need some quality time alone as a couple in a conducive environment to talk about sensitive topics as you connect with the beauty of nature.

2. Pick an Activity They’ll Love

While an outdoor trip can be centered on a major activity such as camping, your stay may also involve several different activities, such as rock climbing, hunting, fishing, hiking, and backpacking.

Your partner is more likely to marry the idea when an activity they love is included. As a matter of fact, planning for great outdoor adventures that don’t include an activity that your SO loves may at times make them shy away from the trip altogether.

3. Encourage Them to Exercise

Outdoor trips may involve spending lots of time in the car, walking, or engaging in certain activities. From swimming to scuba diving, rock climbing, and even hiking, some of these activities may require bringing your A-game as far as physical fitness is concerned.

Consider bringing your SO to the gym, going for evening runs together, or guiding them through a home workout plan in preparation for the trip. This can actually go a long way in convincing them to be part of the plans.

4. Invest in the Relationship, e.g. with Valentine’s Flowers

It can be incredibly difficult to get your spouse to commit to just about anything if you’re not on good terms. However, it becomes a tad bit easier if you invest in a relationship.

This could be through planning activities together, going on dates, communicating regularly, showing appreciation, and surprising your partner often. Getting her one of the popular Valentine’s flowers at Bouqs on February 14, for instance, can make her feel loved, appreciated, and treasured. Almost always, she’ll be more likely to agree to an outdoor trip soon after being made to feel cared for.

5. Make Sure It Fits Into Their Schedule

Oftentimes, the time schedules of partners in a relationship run parallel. She might be the busiest person in the office when you have a whole 28 days on leave to explore the world as much as you can.

However, planning outdoor trip activities just because and only when it suits your schedule can come out as mean and insensitive. She’ll most probably skip it, and she won’t feel good about it. A trip that fits into her schedule, on the other hand, is easier to commit to.

Especially if you are having a rough patch or you haven’t been together for so long, planning an outdoor trip with your partner may not always be a walk in the park. Thankfully, the few tips above can help you get them on board without sweating it so much.
