AGLOW Presents Prestigious Award to Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation

The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) presented its prestigious Golden Glow Award in the Organization Category to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF). The honor was bestowed at a Sept. 24 ceremony recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed extensively to hunting, fishing, shooting sports and conservation or have achieved an exceptional standard of excellence across a career in outdoor communications.

The ceremony was part of the AGLOW annual conference, staged this year at Kentucky Dam Village State Park Resort on Kentucky Lake.

The CSF was recognized for its decades of work in promoting bipartisan solutions to issues related to the outdoors. At the federal level, the Foundation’s Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, with nearly 250 members of the Senate and House of Representatives, includes membership on both sides of the political aisle. In 2004 the CSF began working to create a network of state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses, launching the bipartisan National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses. Today, more than 2,400 state legislators across all 50 states are members of individual state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses. In addition, 30 governors are members of the nonpartisan Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus.

Ken Perrotte, AGLOW chairman of the board, presented the award, noting, “By fostering communication and interaction between and among state legislators, sportsmen’s groups, industry, and media, these caucuses are at the core of the legislative front protecting and advancing hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping, and professional fish and wildlife management. Whenever you see legislation that benefits hunters and anglers, or wildlife and fisheries habitat introduced in the United States Congress or in a state legislature, it’s a good bet that it was written, sponsored, or championed by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation or a member of the caucuses CSF supports.”

Leslie Garrett, CSF director of communication, accepted the award.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. It is a privilege to be recognized by one of the nation’s oldest and most respected professional outdoor organizations. For 35 years, CSF has been the trusted voice for America’s 55 million sportsmen. As the nation’s most effective outdoor advocacy organization, our staff of policy experts remains dedicated to ensuring hunting, angling, recreational shooting, and trapping are carried on for future generations.”
