ALPEN OPTICS

20110427_M1460002With turkey season just starting here in Indiana, the past few weeks I have been glassing the fields in attempt to deal with the pre-season stress/anticipation. In previous years I would simply grab my binoculars and hit the road, since I didn’t have good optics I had to get close to my spots, which I wasn’t crazy about. This year however, with my new Alpen model 725 spotting scope I’m able to walk right out my back door, put the scope on a tripod and view the fields in the valley below from a distance. This is good for me because by staying away from the fields I’m minimizing the chance of spooking birds, but even better by viewing the birds from a much higher elevation I’m able to watch the birds for a much longer time with no obstructions.

Alpen has a long line of high quality spotting scopes that are nitrogen filled, waterproof, fog proof, dustproof and shock-resistant. The ALPEN 725 15-45×60 spotting scope features crystal clear views, great low light performance, a rubber waterproof easy to grip body and compact design for easy packing. The 725 also comes with a nylon travel case, with the optional upgrade to the hearty Aluminum travel case, which does a superb job at holding and protecting the scope, tripod and head. Along with the kit comes a car window mount, which I have found very useful when glassing from the road.

I use the Alpen 725 spotting scope primarily because it lets me see my game before the game see me, and it helps me determine whether the animals I’m pursuing are really what I’m after . In the field, the scope adjusts very easily. Finding focus takes no time with the quick adjust knob located in a comfortable spot on top of the scope. Going from 15 power to 45 power is very easy as well. Another highlight I’ve found in the 725 is how easy it is to pack. I carry my camera equipment plus my optics in a Crooked Horn Outfitters Master guide backpack, and the scope slips right in the side pocket, where I can quickly grab it if need be. The mini tripod also is easy to pack and lets you post up quickly when your spotting, all you have to do is pop the lens covers off, flip the legs out and your ready to go! 20110427_M1460005

Overall, whether you are using the spotting scope to sight in a gun, scout your game or simply view the countryside, the Alpen model 725 is a great choice. Not to mention, every Alpen product comes with a lifetime warranty. Alpen optics ~ the finest things are more thoughtfully made, not more expensive.
