So you’re looking for a new shotgun that’s reliable, durable and is fun to shoot but can’t seem to make up your mind. Well take my advice and give the Benelli M2 a look. At around a 1200 sticker price it may shock you right away but it’s worth every penny. I’ve owned one for three years now and I can’t say I’ve been babying it at all and yet it still shoots like it just came out of the box.
I’m typically pretty hard on guns because my type of hunting isn’t in fair weather and I need a gun that will work even after its been dropped in the mud and beat to hell because that’s when the hunting is best. That’s what the Benelli M2 is, it’s the AK-47 of shotguns.
It will literally work no matter what you put it through and that’s why I love it. The M2 is an inertia driven system, which is what makes them so tough. Instead of having O-rings blow out in the field like the guy next to you when its 10 below zero your barrel is keeping your hands warm on the walk back to the truck, and if you don’t believe me go use a gun with O-rings when it s that cold…you wont be happy.
The gun itself comes in many different models (including tactical), offers both a 26” and 28″ barrel length and in both synthetic and wood stocks. Another great thing the M2 offers is a recoil reduction system, which in a nutshell is a spring that goes from the guns action all the way through the stock. It comes in handy when your shooting for long periods of time and helps eliminate barrel bounce during shots.
The M2 is chambered for either 2 3/4in and 3in shot shells. Now some may criticize it since you cant shoot a 3.5in shell through it, but honestly when you think about it if you have to use a shell that size to kill a goose the problem isn’t your gun not being chambered to shoot that size of load its your aim so to all those magnum shot shell lovers no offense but practice up and get yourself an M2 and see if you change your mind.
