Camillus Knives
I stumbled upon the Camillus Knife this last fall when a friend introduced them to me out in the field. He was quite taken with the design and had to show me a bit about how this system worked and after taking a good look at the set up, i took some time and searched them out. He had mentioned that Walmart carried them but every time I had been in Walmart, i never had time to venture over to the Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor Section so it went a few months before i had a chance to go over and take a look. I needed a couple of tent stakes and headed over to see what they had and the Camillus popped into my head and I took a look. I found the one I was looking for in the Camillus TigerSharp 6.5 Folding Knife.
I snapped it up and was happy to see that this knife was about half or more the cost of the last several knives that I have bought in the last couple of years. The reason I picked this knife up is the interchangeable blade system that this knife has allowing the user to switch blades when one gets dull and when your out in the field there is nothing worse then holding a knife with a dull edge. Dull edges to me are usually when I get cut because I am trying to force a dull knife through a hide and oops I am bleeding….Hence the whole reason for this knife!!
Camillus created an interchangeable blade that allows the center blade to be removed with the supports on the outside holding the slim center blade secure and tight. The ease of switching the blade is pretty darn easy and when you purchase the knife it comes with two blades, one in the knife and a serratted edge that comes with extra. You can purchase extra blades to keep with you in your pack and over all the knife is excellent. This knife is a little on the heavy side but I tend to like the heavy feel of this knife though it would not cut weight on a big backcountry expedition but I have not had time to search the Camillus site to look up and see if they have an ultralight model as of yet.
