Carbon Express Maxima RED Arrows Review by Ed Gramza IV

$T2eC16RHJI!E9qSO8mmlBRVH11IU7Q~~60_35A few months back I did a review on the Carbon Express Maxima Hunter arrows.  At the time I raved about the performance of the Maxima Hunter’s and still feel that it is a great arrow.  However, Carbon Express has now done one better.  Earlier this year they introduced the Maxima RED arrows.  Carbon Express has taken arrow accuracy to a whole new lever with the release of these new arrows.  The whole idea behind the Maxima RED’s is to have the most accurate broadhead arrow in the industry.

Carbon Express is known for making some of the most technologically advanced arrows in the industry.  They are focused on innovation and advancement in technology to create the best arrows on the market.  The Maxima RED arrows are the top of the line arrows in the Carbon Express lineup and have some excellent features that set them apart from the competition.  These include Carbon Express’s Dual Spine Weight Forward technology, BuffTuff and BuffTuff Plus, and a guarantee that each arrow in the box is essentially a matched set, and LAUNCPAD Precision Nocks.

The Carbon Express Dual Spine Weight Forward technology is a patented process that fuses two different carbon materials to create an arrow that has two spines.  This allows the arrow to manage the transfer of energy upon release of the arrow.  The back part of the arrow features a lighter and stiffer carbon fiber than the front part of the arrow.  The “RED” zone of the arrow is the area that helps control the flex of the arrow which increases accuracy.  This helps the arrow to flex less when released from the bow and causes the arrow to spin 20% sooner.  These two benefits help to increase speed and accuracy downrange.  The heavier weight in the front of the arrow also helps with kinetic energy for hunting situations delivering deadly penetration.

No matter if you decide to buy a half-dozen or a dozen Maxima RED arrows, you can rest assured the each arrow in the box is virtually identical.  Carbon Express sorts arrows based on weight, spine, and straightness.  The tolerances for each set of arrows are tighter than any other manufacturer on the market.  These strict tolerances can all but guarantee that each arrow in the bow will shoot the same.  Once a set of arrows is made, each arrow gets a serial number that matches all of the arrows in the box.  In order for an arrow to be selected for a set, they must fit into the following criteria:

Spine Tolerance: +/- 0.0025”

Weight Tolerance: +/- 1.0 grains

Straightness: 1/10,000 of an inch

With the redesign of the Maxima RED arrows, Carbon Express is able to manage dynamic spine so well they offer only two different spine sizes.  The two sizes made are 250’s and 350’s.  They RED’s are able to cover bows with draw weights from 40-92 and everything in between.   With my Prime Defy, I am pulling about 73 pounds and am shooting the 350 Carbon Express RED’s.  They are able to handle the draw weight and length with ease.

Size         Grains/Inch         Spine                       Diameter

250         8.11                          0.417”                    0.295”

350         9.07                          0.342”                    0.300”

Carbon Express has designed these arrows to allow a shooter to switch from the Hunters to the RED’s without having to change their pin settings.  Even though the RED’s are slightly heavier than the Hunter’s, I did find that they do have the same flight path and performance as the Hunter’s.  I had my Prime Defy sighted in out to 80 yards with the Maxima Hunter’s.  The first time I shot the Maxima RED’s, I was extremely pleased to see that the claims Carbon Express has made are in fact accurate.  I did not have to change my pins at all switching arrows.  I was alternating between the Hunter’s and the RED’s on every other shot and they were all in the same group.  With the slight weight difference, I did notice however that the Maxima RED’s had a little more penetration.

Overall I am more than pleased with the new switch to the Carbon Express Maxima RED arrows.  Shooting the arrows with broadheads attached required no additional tuning to my bow.  They shot just as accurate with broadheads as they did with field points.  The increase in weight has added a little more kinetic energy for more penetration hunting purposes.  If you currently shoot Maxima Hunter’s, I suggest that you take a look at these new arrows.  And if you don’t shoot Carbon Express arrows, it is time that you make the switch to the most accurate arrow on the market.
