Chippewa Boots 9” Bay Apache Boot Review
Chippewa Boots built the 9” Bay Apache boot for extreme cold weather and that is exactly what this boot is made for and we tested it out this season in some of the coldest weather imaginable. This season our hardest hunt was stand sitting a back corner in a Missouri cattle farm near Atlanta, Missouri and the temps averaged 5 degrees each morning for 4 separate sets and I can tell you, I was cold but my feet on the were warm and comfortable.
Chippewa Boots is owned by Justin Brands and actually is now a division of Berkshire Hathaway based out of Omaha, Nebraska. These boots are made in the USA and every pair of boots is built solid and carries the American Flag on the laces as a symbol of pride.
The 9” Bay Apache is fully waterproof, offering the Chip-a-Tex waterproof membrane allowing air to pass through for breathability. The boots also come with a Vibram Outsole and a full leather upper that is built to last. The lining for these boots is genuine Lamb Shearling and it is comfortable and well thought out. The hardware on these boots is brass and wont tarnish.
My only complaint is that the boots I got came with stock laces that were too short for the boots and I was able to contact customer service and get a new pair of laces sent right out that fit these boots. I believe this might have just been an oversight on this pair of boots but the team at Chippewa stepped up and fixed this issue quickly.
The boots come a bit stiff but then all good leather boots come this way but the boots once getting laced up feel like a natural extension of your feet and loosen up quite well once they are tied tightly and I cannot speak enough about the lamb shearling liner in these. The liner seems to do a great job of wicking moisture from your feet. I recommend with all boots like this that you wear a silk liner and quality merino wool or smart wool socks.
If you hunt a lot of cold weather stands for whitetail these are the boots to get because they are comfortable, warm, reasonably priced and most of all American Made. We are happy to wear them and happy to recommend them!!
