CMP Introduces New Indoor Rifle and Pistol Winter Home Range Series

Though the weather outside is frightful, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is keeping the competition season hot by introducing a fresh set of marksmanship opportunities for rifle and pistol competitors to enjoy from their local ranges during the frosty months.

The Winter Home Range Series is a collection of indoor .22 pistol, air rifle, air pistol, rimfire sporter and smallbore rifle matches. Mirrored off of the Home Range Appreciation Series fired during the summer of 2020, the Winter Home Range Series of matches are held locally, with scores ranked on a national level amongst participating competitors from around the United States.

Each match will be sanctioned by a CMP Affiliated Club. Matches must be held by Feb. 16, 2021. All results will be final on Feb. 24. Individuals taking part in the events will receive a commemorative Winter Home Range Series winter hat and match decal. Overall and categorical winners will receive awards by mail.

Athletes may fire in the following offered matches, only once:

  • .22 Pistol – 40 Shot, 50ft (with iron sights or optics)
  • Air Pistol – 60 Shots, 10m
  • Air Rifle – 3×20 (including a team match), 10m
  • Air Rifle – 60 Shots Standing (decimal score), 10m
  • Rimfire Sporter, 50ft (O-Class, T-Class, TU Class)
  • Smallbore 3×20, 50ft

Along with the necessary marksmanship safety guidelines, hosting clubs must follow state and local health practices, including mask coverings and distancing requirements.

Get back on the firing line for a chance to beat the cold and some nationwide scores – all from the warmth of your local indoor range! Learn more about the Winter Home Range Series by visiting the CMP website at https://thecmp.org/competitions/winter-home-range-series/.
