The features include a diamond coated sharpener for maintaining a sharp blade, a nylon sheath, a fire-starting ferro rod as well as an emergency whistle for situations where you need to get found.
I find this tool to be an exceptional multi-tool. Leatherman has perfected multi-tools over the years and has a reputation unmatched in the industry. With all of these tools the pliers, the knife and the saw will be the most used. The feature that I appreciate on this particular multi-tool is the ferrocerium rod or Ferro Rod.
I have been in a survival situation a time or two. Knowing I have the ability to build a fire when I need it changes everything. I know that if I ever get wet, cold and slightly lost, the ability to quickly and efficiently pop off the ferro-rod, grab some tinder, sticks and wood and get a fire started within a matter of minutes means a great deal. Ever since the day I had gotten wet in the snow and struggled for over an hour to get a fire started, I carry Wet Tinder Fire Starter in my pack. The Leatherman Signal offers all of the features that I want in a multi-tool.
The belt clip, the nylon sheath, the ability to lock the multi-tool, the carabiner clip and the layout and feel of this multi-tool is what draws me to this specific model. The safety whistle and the ferro-rod are what pushes me over the edge in choosing this model over other selections from Leatherman.
