Nation Ford and Granbury Athletes Lead 2021 JROTC Virtual Championships

Results of the 2021 JROTC Virtual Championships are now available online!

The postal-style event was hosted by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and saw participation from over 670 sporter and precision air rifle athletes from Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy JROTC High School programs.

In team competition, Granbury High School from Texas overtook the precision division for the fourth consecutive year – with four of the school’s athletes reaching a place within the Top 10 individuals overall. Teammates Sarah Folsom and Parker Haydin were ranked first and second, respectively. Granbury’s Team 2 also earned the fifth place spot in the team matchup.

Likewise, Nation Ford High School from South Carolina capped the sporter class, with members Maya Cameron and Kayla Kalenza earning gold and silver.

Teams and individuals qualified for the Virtual Championships after competing in the JROTC Postal Championships earlier in the year. Typically, the Postal competition is followed by regional Service Championships and an overall National Championship, but travel restrictions and other logistical complexities left these matches morphing into one final event of the JROTC season: the Virtual Championships.

Granbury High School MCJROTC cadets Sarah Folsom, Parker Haydin, Ashton Arlington and Kaylynn Slaughter earned top honors during the 2021 JROTC Virtual Championship. The Texas team is coached by Scott Casey.

“In what has been one of the most difficult years for everyone, I am proud we were able to put together a Championship for the JROTC cadets,” said Brad Donoho, CMP smallbore manager and coordinator of the JROTC matches. “We would much rather host a shoulder-to-shoulder Championship, but this Virtual Championship gave most teams and individuals a chance to compete. Congratulations to the winning teams and individuals!”

Doubling as the 2021 JROTC National Championship, awards for the 2021 Virtual Championships were presented to the Top 5 overall teams in sporter and precision, the Top 10 overall individuals as well as the Top 3 teams and Top 3 individuals per service.
