The world of gun cases has come a long way in the last ten years and Pelican is leading the charge with the Pelican IM3300RFL Storm Rifle Case. This case is one of the toughest I have seen on the market. Pelican went all out to create a rifle case with room for optics and accessories and pre-cut foam to fit a scoped rifle with up to a 28-inch barrel.
The first thing I recognize taking this out of the box is the weight (23 lbs.) I notice the weight again once it is filled with all my gear. The great news is this case has inline wheels and it is easy to roll when I need to take it somewhere. I have used a wide variety of cases over the past 20 years on hunting trips and flying around the country and this case is as solid as they come. It is well built, has soft comfortable handles and locks down with four padlock locations.
Pelican stands behind the Pro Series line with a Guaranteed for Life warranty. As well built as this case is, very few of these cases will be returned to exercise that warranty. I know gun cases often get abused in airports. I sometimes feel airline personnel are jealous that someone is going hunting and they just abuse the cases. Maybe it is the size of cases like this that cause them some angst. I have seen quite a few gun cases just get tossed, dumped and literally thrown onto conveyer belts. With the Pelican Storm Rifle case, I know that my rifle is safe while in transit.
What I like most about this cases are the compartments for the rifle and the tie down straps that keep the rifle secure and locked in tight. The extra compartments are perfect fits for my binoculars, rangefinder, Otis Technology gun cleaning kit and other electronics and tools I need for my hunts. I feel secure in knowing that when I lock my Weatherby into this case it is going to be protected. Once this case is locked up, no one is going to get into it and my gear will remain secure and set.
Pelican has knocked it out of the park with this case. The only drawbacks are the weight and the price. This is a heavy case, but then it is bomb-proof and with that warranty you just cannot go wrong. The question you really have to ask yourself is, Will I use it enough times on various trips to justify the cost?” I want to know that my rifle and gear will be safe and protected and will arrive intact and ready for the hunt. I know that with the trips I take, this case will get my gear to the destination intact.
