Richard Mann, born and raised in West Virginia, has hunted from the mountains of Montana to the plains of Africa. A veteran, former patrol officer and special agent, and seasoned writer, Mann is the shooting editor for Field & Stream and a contributor to several other leading gun and hunting publications. In 2019, he was awarded the Bill McRae Lifetime Achievement Award for his writing. His EmptyCases Substack, launched in 2023, offers a deeper look into his work. Richard lives with his wife of 31 years on their shooting range, Shadowland, in the West Virginia hills, along with their Rhodesian Ridgeback and her pack of puppies.
