SMYRNA, Ga. – October 10, 2019 GLOCK GmbH, headquartered in Austria, is proud to announce that the Portuguese Army has adopted the GLOCK 17 Gen5 as their official duty weapon.
NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) launched a tender earlier this year where GLOCK competed against several manufacturers and was awarded in late July, 2019.

GLOCK was supported by the Portuguese distributor, Sodarco in the tender. Joao Bravo, CEO of Sodarca congratulates the Portuguese Army Chief of Staff team for the positive achievement through a transparent and effective public tender. “This public competition has been expected for several years and has been finally concluded successfully with the best option possible” stated Bravo.
The Portuguese Army selected the G17 Gen5 in a custom coyote color as the ideal solution for their new duty weapon. The reversible magazine catch and ambidextrous slide stop lever offer flexibility to meet the needs of both left- and right-handed shooters. The G17 Gen5 also features the GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) for increased accuracy and precision, a lanyard loop, the Gen5 enhanced trigger system, front serrations and GLOCK night sights.
There are no plans to release the coyote variation of the G17 Gen5 selected by the Portuguese Army to the commercial market at this time.
