Sunglasses like any other peice of gear are tools to help you be better in the field and Revision Eyewear makes sunglasses for the most important field in the world, the Battlefield for our United States Military.  I am taking a look at them from a different perspective, the fields and mountains of our great outdoors.  Over the last several years, I will admit I am a bit of a sunglass snob, I cannot wear the cheap pairs of optically poor sunglasses from the local mini-mart so getting a chance to test these Hellfly Ballistic Sunglasses in the field over a weekend of scouting was pure bliss and the good news is I think they look pretty cool as well.

Sunglasses are important in the field for our US Military because they need to be able to see where danger is coming from regardless of whether the sun is coming up or right in thier eyes.  Danger comes in all situations and in a tactical environment or on the shooting range you need protection from the sun, protection from bright objects and most importantly you need a ballistically impact resistent set of glasses that will protect your eyes and eyesight from flying debri and fragments.  In order to pass the U.S. Military ballistic impact resistance requirements, Hellfly Sunglasses must pass the stringent test protocol (MIL-PRF-31013, clause 3.5.1.1). This rigorous test subjects the Hellfly Sunglasses to a 0.15 caliber, 5.8 grain, T37 shaped projectile which impacts the eyewear at 640 to 660 feet per second. The Hellfly Sunglasses well exceeded the ballistic standard and the wrap-around design ensures that the wearer is fully protected against unexpected fragments and extreme conditions.

In the outdoors, this turns into a pair of glasses that can protect your eyes, increase your contrast of the world around you, allow you to see better into the shadows and be able to react better to the wildlife around you.  As well, the wrap around design allows you to have a clearer field of vision in the woods and the glasses hug your face so they are not going to get caught up on your bowstring.  As well, they are easy to push up over your eyes for viewing with a pair of binoculars and they easily drop back into place pretty quickly.

I found the glasses to be excellent for use in the field.  Now, I know a few of you are going to ask me about wildlife and the lack of camoflage for these glasses and I do not have an answer for you.  I can tell you all that I carry an 8 lb camera with a big huge lens into the woods every single time I head into the woods, so I am not going to worry about a couple of lenses covering my eyes.  If anything it will hide the whites of my eyes everytime I see a monster buck!!

For about $80.00 a pair, log on to the Revision Eyewear website and pick yourself up a pair of these sunglasses, they are not going to break your bank and they just may save your vision from that errant debri or fragment.  If you have a brother, sister, husband, son or daughter in the United States Military, pick them up a pair of these and send them to them so they can protect those valuable eyes in the field.
