Outdoor Gear Reviews

RockTape Review

We met with the team at RockTape at Outdoor Retailer in Denver.  RockTape has long been known in the athletic community for their kinesiology tape, cutting-edge education, and fitness support products.  They are a regular at the CrossFit games and more and more athletes are using kinesiology tape, including hikers and backpackers.

My introduction to RockTape and why we are doing a RockTape Review, began as I traveled to Denver from Lincoln, NE.  We stopped at a hotel in Fort Morgan, Colorado.  The hotel was fine and the bed was comfortable, but I slept hard and woke up with an incredibly twisted neck.  I literally could not turn my neck to the right.  Needless to say, the hour drive in to downtown Denver was painful.  We got some coffee and headed into the OR Demo Days.  The third booth we stopped at was RockTape.  We started talking about hunting and I told them about my neck pain.

They brought out two bottles of RockSauce: one in Icey Cold and one in Fiery Hot.  RockSauce is a roll-on pain relief cream.  It is easy to apply and work into your sore muscles.  To be honest, I wasn’t holding out a tremendous amount of hope that this product would relieve my sore neck. I felt the like the only thing that might work was a bunch of Advil and some rest which I knew I was not going to get.  I was pleasantly surprised when within two hours of using the Icey Cold RockSauce, I was actually able to turn my head and row a kayak against the current out on the river without much pain.  In the evening, I was feeling even better and reapplied the cream and again first thing in the morning.  After a very busy morning, I found the RockTape booth again and gave them a big Thank You!  By noon I was feeling no neck pain and was in full stride at a very busy show.

RockTape Blister Kit

RockTape makes a wide range of products like RockTape, RockSauce, and RockBalls.  The one that might really interest hunters is the RockTape Blister Kit.  This is similar to moleskin with an extra strong adhesive and a breathable and water-resistant coating to preotect areas that are prone to blisters.  I took one of these kits to add to my pack so that should new boots or foot blisters show up on a hunt, I will have something to keep my feet moving forward without incident over a several day hunt.

Check out the great products at RockTape and look for them in your local fitness and sporting goods stores.
