Slayer Enchantress Elk Call Review

I first learned how to call elk in 2003, though I have never been very good at calling elk. I sound like a ratty young spike at best, but sometimes that really weak sounding satellite bull is a little more agonizing to a worked up bull than sounding like a big herd bull. I have had enough success with this method that I will probably keep it around for the time being. At the moment, I am much more interested in becoming a better turkey caller and duck caller than worrying about elk. The great news is that the Enchantress Elk Call from Slayer Game Calls is super easy to learn.

I have spent some serious time filming some of the best elk callers in the world. I love watching techniques in the field with guides. I have always been bothered that I could not do what they do; specifically I could not put a reed call into my mouth without an immediate gag reflex. I could never get past it. I made every attempt to overcome this including trimming and cutting down dozens of reeds to try and make them work always to same conclusion. No bueno.

Slayer created the Enchantress Elk Call to be a true external all-in-one call that is easy to learn and create realistic elk sounds. The Enchantress is a push call which has an internal reed with a silicone cover that works like a rubber “tongue” to compress the reed and pull out high pitch tones with the call. To work this call you use your thumb nail to compress the button and create the sounds. Slayer produced a great video with Cody McCarthy, Slayer’s head of product innovation. Operating the Enchantress, and tips on how to use the Enchantress are great videos to help you get started on using this call. The external call attaches to the Swagger bugle tube which allows the bugle tube to draw out more lifelike bull sounds. This method is easy to pull it off the bugle to mimic the sounds of cow elk.  We like that Slayer donates 10% of each purchase to organizations working to protect wildlife, the environment, and support conservation efforts, all of which ultimately protect our hunting heritage. If you cannot use a reed (or even if you can), this is a call worth purchasing. The Swagger Bugle Tube is exceptional for reed callers ,so you can have one call or many.  WIN/WIN.
