Talladega Marksmanship Park Hosts State Shotgun and Pistol Events in September

TALLADEGA, Ala. – In September, the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park, “the Home of Marksmanship,” hosted a number of State matches on the grounds of its 500-acre facility.
Over 1,000 event entries were seen throughout the month, with several thousands of dollars generated and credited towards the CMP’s continuing mission of marksmanship advancement through competition, clinics and safety training.
Alabama State Sporting Clays Tournament, Sept. 13-15:
A total of 120 participants from surrounding states arrived at the Alabama State Sporting Clays event. Categories fired included the Main Event, Prelim, FITASC, Sub-Gauges, Super Sport and a Side Event (Snooker shoot off).
The 2019 State Champion is Mike Benton with a score of 182/200. Runner Up is CMP Shotgun Team Member Steve Dickinson with a score of 180/200.
Todd Simmons earned the Out-of-State Champion title with a score of 185/200, as Kevin Griffin became the Out-of-State Runner Up with a score of 185/200. Lady HOA State Champion is Sherri Smith, accruing a score of 133/200.

USPSA State Steel Challenge, Sept. 13-15:
The Alabama United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) brought the two-day event to Talladega Marksmanship Park in September. A total of eight stages were held in each of the divisions, which included the Main Match, PCC, Rimfire Pistol and Rimfire Rifle.
Over the eight stages, Chris Barrett finished the Rimfire Rifle Open with a leading time of 59.82. He also finished the PCC Optics Division with a time of 64.43, Rimfire Rifle Iron with a time of 65.56 and Rimfire Pistol Open Division with a time of 69.15.

GLOCK Annual Match, Sept. 20-22:
The GLOCK Annual Shoot XXVI & Gunny Challenge XV weekend event welcomed over 1,000 entries. With GLOCK Matches held around the country throughout the year, the match at Talladega serves as the national championship for GLOCK’s competitions and the organizations home range. Participants fire in several divisions, with winners decided upon based on those categorical scores. The Gunny Challenge is named for actor, Marine and long-time marksmanship sports and GLOCK supporter, the late R. Lee Ermey.
Winning the 2019 Gunny Challenge was Dennis P. Kirchhoff. He earned a check for $3,000 for his performance. Other top performers of the event can be viewed on the results page at http://www.gssfonline.com/results/2019/2019gas.pdf.
