The U.S. Concealed Carry Association on Capitol Hill This Week
This week, Tim Schmidt, president and founder of the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), along with Mike Lowney, chief strategy office, met with nearly a dozen members in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate to discuss efforts to protect law-abiding gun owners’ right to self-defense, as well as the importance of education and training. The USCCA highlighted their overall mission to help responsibly armed Americans avoid danger, save lives, and keep loved ones safe.
The USCCA has heard from many of its more than 600,000 members about the difficulty they have traveling with their firearms across state lines due to the patchwork of state and local laws around concealed carry permits. This not only prevents them from exercising their Second Amendment right, but puts them at risk of being caught in a situation where they can’t defend themselves or their family.
Thankfully, lawmakers are working to pass legislation, such as S. 1522, the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and H.R. 38, the National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. While there is much progress to be made, the USCCA stands ready to work with Members of Congress who support the right to self-defense and fight the good fight.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that nearly half of all new U.S. gun purchasers since the start of 2019 have been women, a change from an industry that has been notably dominated by men. The 2021 National Firearms Survey recently released found that an estimated 3.5 million women became new gun owners from January 2019 through April 2021.
According to the U.S. Concealed Carry Association, the faces of the gun industry have been changing for years now. In fact, reports have shown that over the last decade, more and more females have been joining the gun community. And while all demographic groups have been making these firearms purchases, Black men and women accounted for a 58 percent increase.
Undoubtedly, the influx of new gun owners from all walks of life can mean more support for the Second Amendment. And as long as we can put any possible differences, disagreements or demographics aside, millions of Americans can come together — unified in our understanding that life is worth protecting.
