Toadfish 7-Inch Fillet Knife Review

As early March rolls around on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the yellow perch begin their spawning season, and for anglers like myself, that means it’s time for the first fish fry of the year. It’s the perfect opportunity to put the Toadfish 7-inch fillet knife to the test, and I have to say—this knife did not disappoint!

The yellow perch, at around 10-11 inches, are the perfect size for filleting, and the Toadfish knife made the job a breeze. The titanium-coated blade is generously wide, which made following the spine of the fish incredibly easy. The medium flex blade and curved edge allowed for smooth, precise skin removal—ideal for preparing the fish for battering and frying. The fine tip was especially useful for cleaning up any tiny bones that remained after filleting.

One feature that truly stood out was the knife’s handle. The soft, non-slip rubber grip gave me excellent control, even when the knife was wet and slippery. Whether making vertical cuts with my thumb on the side or horizontal cuts with my thumb on top, the ambidextrous grip design was comfortable and intuitive in both orientations.

Additionally, the sheath is both practical and convenient. It includes a belt loop and a suction cup, which would be especially handy for those who prefer cleaning their catch right at the dock. I also appreciated the attached bottle opener—an unexpected but useful bonus!

Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with the Toadfish 7-inch fillet knife. It’s sharp, durable, and comfortable to use, making it a great tool for any angler looking to clean their catch quickly and efficiently.  A great price of around $30 makes it a great gift idea too.  My son will be getting one for his birthday.  Highly recommended!

Toadfish isn’t just making quality products, there is a reason for it and it’s a reason we can all support.    With every purchase of one of their products, Toadfish restores and plants new oyster beds in our coastal waters.   In the last 30 years the human population has risen by 40% in coastal areas which has contributed to high pollution in coastal waters which is the leading cause of fish mortality and lower population.   Each oyster filters 50 gallons of water per day– amazing!  Toadfish has planted over 280,000 square feet of oyster beds in 8 states. That’s impressive.  When I first received the Toadfish 7” fillet knife I was happy to upgrade from my old wood handle fillet knife but it introduced me to the Toadfish company and their whole product line.  While on Toadfish.com I noticed some sale items and I will be getting the non-tipping tumbler and non-tipping cup holder, also at a great price.
