USCCA: As We Combat COVID-19, Defending The Rights of Citizens Under The Constitution Must Persist

Appeals Court Allows California Background Check Requirement To Remain In Place For All Ammunition Sales

WEST BEND, WI – The United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), which provides self-defense education, training and legal protection to more than 325,000 responsible American gun owners, released the following statement after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit paused a lower court’s ruling that overturned background checks for every ammunition sale in California. This decision comes as firearms dealers, ranges and manufacturers remain designated as essential businesses amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

“As we continue to come together as a nation to combat the coronavirus, defending the rights of law-abiding citizens under the Constitution persists.  The ammunition law in California blatantly disregards the rights of millions of responsible gun owners who are often their families’ first line of defense,” stated USCCA President and Founder Tim Schmidt.  “Now more than ever, the Second Amendment rights of all Americans must be preserved, especially as the firearms industry remains essential during this time of crisis.”

Since the rise of the coronavirus, record numbers of Americans have been purchasing firearms for self-protection during the current pandemic and it’s been confirmed that while gun sales have skyrocketed, crime has actually gone down across the nation.
