Warthog Sharpeners Provides Ceramic Sharpening for Kitchen Blades

Honing a knife means refining its edge by polishing it, making it sharper, and giving it a shiny finish. Honing removes imperfections, rolls, and nicks from the initial sharpening. As the knife is polished, it sharpens the blade. There is sharp, and then there is the polished sharp only a ceramic hone can give.

Sharpening vs. Honing

Although these words are used interchangeably, they don’t mean the same thing. To sharpen means removing material from the blade to create a new cutting edge. Honing, however, means refining the edge after it’s been rough-sharpened or dinged up by use. Using the ceramic will take out burrs and slight nicks and polish the blade to a slick edge.

Once the sharpening is done with the standard diamond hone, 325 grit, sufficient for most sharpening tasks, or higher grade diamond hones like the 600 and 1,000 grits, it is time to refine it with a ceramic hone.

A polished knife has a smooth cutting edge (bevel) that reduces friction when cutting food, especially steaks, chicken, and hard vegetables.
