YETI Rambler One Gallon Jug Review

Rambler One Gallon Jug Review

We first got the opportunity to take a serious look at the YETI One Gallon Jug at the Archery Trade Association show in January and we basically begged to get on the early review list for this product. I was imagining Split Pea Soup or Chili in the duck blind the first time I saw it and Marjorie was thinking iced tea on our summer family picnics. Whether you are looking at hot or cold, YETI has created the answer for large fluid containment regardless of your situation. YETI has answered our calls for a larger container with the Rambler Half Gallon Jug and the Rambler One Gallon Jug.

  • One gallon is lot of liquid:
  • Ten Cans of Soda or Beer
  • One Margarita Party
  • A Gallon of Ice Tea
  • 16 servings of Chili (unless you eat like we do; then it’s 8 servings). (I like great venison chili, I cannot lie.)

YETI says: One bucket of live bait. When I first read this, I was thinking that doesn’t really sound like a great idea. But my mouth started watering thinking of fried fish so I am pretty sure that there will be live minnows in my Rambler One Gallon Jug at some point in the next month or so.

I still have a Thermos that belonged to my father from 1960. When I pass on, my kids may well claim the YETI One Gallon Jug to remember our trips like picnics, heading to soccer games or chasing big elk in the high country.

Our tests on this are that it will hold tea and ice for a full day at basically the same temperature throughout the day. Hot Liquids will cool down faster but over 6 hours chili was still hot enough to eat and honestly we just couldn’t wait to eat the chili any longer.

The Rambler One Gallon Jug is a lot bigger than your standard Thermos but it is solid and insulated. The lid has a full inch of insulation and has a cleverly-designed handle which helps to get the lid off. The spout cap is magnetic and it sits well into the little impression on the lid. This keeps the lid from falling onto the ground and keeps it clean and easily found. The magnetic cap is genius. The lid is a little tight to get off and on. The unit weighs right around four and a half pounds and will be on sale on the YETI website for $129.99.

I will also invest in the Rambler Jug Mount. This mount allows you to lock in the Rambler One Gallon Jug or half gallon jug in order to prevent it from rolling around the truck bed, the back of the UTV or anywhere you mount it.

The Yeti Rambler One Gallon Jug is an valuable addition to a gear kit but its capacity has me sold. It will be a well used part of our family trips, my hunting trips and most of all a valuable addition to our duck hunts. Chili tastes twice as good when eaten in a duck blind or in the upland field.
