OLATHE, Kan. — The Buffalo Gals of Olathe Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is holding its second annual Women’s Outdoor Skills Workshop — a fun-filled weekend for women — April 25 to April 26, 2008.

Co-hosted by Bass Pro Shops of Olathe, the event will take place at the historic Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farmstead in Olathe, and will offer more than 25 classes on archery, canoeing, shooting, fishing, turkey calling, Dutch oven cooking, blacksmithing, jewelry making and more. Experienced instructors will be present to provide hands-on experience during the classes.

The Buffalo Gals of Olathe Chapter’s inaugural event was recognized during the NWTF’s annual Convention and Sport Show as the overall best new event, had the best new event membership achievement and best new event highest dollars out of all Women in the Outdoors events held nationwide in 2007.

“This year’s workshop promises to be even better than last year’s award-winning event,” said Ellen Benitz, women’s regional field supervisor for the NWTF’s Women in the Outdoors program. “Outdoor enthusiast or not, any woman can enjoy meeting with other women and learning about a variety of outdoor topics at this unique event.”

The chapter is part of the NWTF’s Women in the Outdoors outreach program, which is now celebrating its 10th year. Since 1998, the NWTF’s Women in the Outdoors program has worked to share the outdoor tradition by providing expert instruction and hands-on education through events designed for women. During its inaugural year, Women in the Outdoors hosted 18 events and today the program organizes more than 400 events across the nation.

Women who attend the workshop will receive a one-year membership to the Women in the Outdoors program and a subscription to Women In The Outdoors magazine, which features articles about conservation and the outdoors. Participants also can tour the farmstead’s new learning center, historic home and museum and enjoy free stagecoach rides.

Pre-registration is recommended. For more information about the Women’s Outdoor Skills Workshop, call Dee Creath at (913) 764-0395 or Ellen Benitz at (816) 387-6606.
