Catch the First Tigress-Tagged Dolphin in the CCA Florida STAR Tournament and Win $10,000!

The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Florida STAR Tournament offers a unique combination of conservation, data collection and education, with more than enough prizes and scholarships to make it the can’t-miss fishing competition of the year. And the lucky angler that catches the first Tigress-tagged dolphin in the 2021 CCA Florida STAR Tournament will win $10,000 cash!

The 2021 Florida STAR Tournament kicks off on Memorial Day, May 29, and runs through to September 6, for over 100 days of exciting competitive fishing action. No other fishing tournament in Florida can engage anglers of all ages and experience levels and even includes non-anglers who can participate and win simply by collecting trash and debris. This year’s family-friendly tourney experience offers $500,000 in prizes in 17 divisions, including tagged, non-tagged, inshore and offshore species.

Tigress is proud to be a sponsor of STAR, the largest fishing competition in Florida. The catch, photograph, and release format of STAR tournaments encourages anglers to protect and conserve fishery resources for future viability and availability for all recreational anglers. STAR’s smartphone app eliminates the requirement for anglers to harvest or capture and transport fish and promotes the proper handling of all species in the competition.

Entry fees for the 2021 CCA Florida STAR Tournament are only $75 for adults and include a one-year membership in CCA. Youth anglers can enter for free after becoming a member for just $10. Most divisions have six winning places and are determined by a random drawing of all photo entries of fish on the West Marine Official STAR measuring device. Because it is not the biggest fish that wins, the unique format encourages participants of all ages to protect and conserve Florida’s fisheries for future generations. Whatever their age or skill level, competing anglers have their shot at prizes, including a brand new boat, motor and trailer packages, cash, marine electronics, Yamaha motors, tackle, scholarships and much more.

STAR’s offshore signature division is the Tigress Outrigger & Gear Tagged Dolphin Division. The first angler to catch a 2021 confirmed tagged dolphin will win a $10,000 cash prize. Anglers must have a CCA membership AND be registered in STAR before hooking and landing a tagged dolphin to be eligible. The time and date of the catch must be submitted. A photo of tagged fish on an official measuring device, verification of tagged dolphin and results of a polygraph will determine the prize winners in the Tagged Dolphin Division. Only the first STAR Tagged dolphin recaptured by registered a STAR angler who is a CCA member during 2021 competition dates and certified by the STAR Committee will be eligible for the prize.

The Coastal Conservation Association was founded in 1977 after drastic commercial overfishing along the Texas coast decimated redfish and speckled trout populations. One of 19 state chapters, CCA Florida, became the fifth state chapter in 1985. A 501(c)3 non-profit, the purpose of CCA is to advise and educate the public on the conservation of marine resources. Through habitat restoration projects, water quality initiatives and fisheries advocacy, CCA Florida work with over 19,000 members, including recreational anglers and outdoor enthusiasts, to conserve and enhance marine resources and coastal environments.
