CAMP PERRY, Ohio – The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is excited to team up with Veteran’s Family Brigade to conduct the 2025 Junior Highpower Rifle Clinic – a popular and valuable opportunity conducted during the National Matches each year.
The CMP Junior Highpower Clinic, sponsored by ACME Machine, will be held July 25-27 on the famous Camp Perry grounds – home to the National Matches since 1907. The clinic offers advanced instruction in service rifle competition techniques through classroom demonstrations and live-fire training on the range.
“I can’t overstate the amount of talent we’ll have at this year’s clinic,” said Brian Williams, CMP’s Highpower Manager. “Having members of the Veteran’s Family Brigade, some of the best shots of our generation, work one-on-one with our juniors is certainly a privilege and a rare opportunity. We’re thrilled for their involvement, and we’re looking forward to the elevated knowledge they’ll be providing our juniors at the National Matches.”
The Veteran’s Family Brigade is a team of elite, retired military marksmen and women – many of whom are previous national champions and world-class athletes. Along with competing themselves at national-level events throughout the year, the Brigade gives back to communities by providing clinics to interested individuals of all ages across the country.
Members leading this year’s Junior Clinic include storied champions such as Dan Duitsman, Dwayne Lewis and Jonathan O’Neal, as well as former Marine and legendary markswoman, Julia Watson-Carlson.
Watson-Carlson’s own marksmanship journey began as a junior, winning her first competition at age 16 with a borrowed rifle. She went on to place her name in the history books as the first female to win the National Trophy Individual Match (1998) and is one of few women to have earned a double-Distinguished title in rifle and pistol.
After competing on her own at the National Matches for over 30 years, she’s bringing her expertise to juniors looking to reach their own marksmanship goals.
“Success in shooting is measured by the obstacles which can be overcome while working to succeed and not giving up,” Watson-Carlson said. “This clinic will be a unique experience for the juniors to overcome obstacles that they may be struggling with in their performance.”
