Coffee is always a good idea

The team at GSI Outdoors feels the same way that I do about coffee and they have created some serious tools to enjoy your coffee in the field, in camp and even on the hunt.  We took a serious look at what they had to offer and came up with a quick list of our favorites and tested them over the hunting season.

Javamill

GSI Outdoors JavamillThe nesting hand crank coffee grinder allows you to bring coffee beans into the field. It’s an excellent small grinder and it fits well into your pack.  In a real pinch you can actually use it to grind spices together for a quick meal in the field as well.  It’s lightweight at only 9.3 ounces.  If a fresh cup is important to your happiness in camp, this is a great little product under 30 dollars.

Portable Javapress

GSI Outdoors Java Press

Quality coffee is easily made in the field and a French press is an essential tool.  We have tried drip coffee makers but find the French press keeps coffee warmer and a single 50 oz. press can produce coffee for four pretty darn quickly.  Sold at under 45 dollars this press is lightweight, shatter-resistant and perfect for in camp and on the bottom of your pack.

Espresso Maker

GSI Outdoors Espresso Maker

Sometimes you just want what you want.  A good crisp clean cup of espresso is just what you need to get through a grueling all day set or hike.  Espresso can make a long day go by pretty quickly.  We used this on cold sets as a quick warm up about 1 pm and the afternoon just flew by.  At under 40 dollars this is a private little luxury.  We got the one cup maker but if we were going to do it again we would order the Moka Espresso Pot over the 1 cup maker.

Pinnacle Dualist Complete

GSI Outdoors Pinnacle Dualist

Man cannot survive on coffee alone!  Well, that statement is debatable but we all need food and no matter what we cannot make coffee without a good quality stove.  We settled on the Pinnacle Dualist Complete as we often travel in groups and this just made sense over the other models.  This complete set allows me to cook entire meals, heat water for coffee and cook up tenderloins right in the field.  Everything you need all in one clean set and all for under 110 dollars.

With the following kit and some coffee beans, freeze dried meals, water, salt/pepper and instant oatmeal (our favorite) we can basically make it in almost any environment for days in regards to our nourishment.  There is no mistaking the warm feeling and confidence you get from having a fresh cup of coffee that you just made in the field.  Check out GSI Outdoors, you will like the quality of gear and the variety they produce.
