GSM Outdoors Acquires SOG Specialty Knives Inc.
Irving, TX – GSM Outdoors, a multi-brand manufacturer and technology innovator of specialized hunting and shooting sport accessories, is thrilled to announce the acquisition of SOG Specialty Knives, Inc., one of the most respected tactical and purpose-built knife manufactures in the U.S.
“Since 1986, SOG has been synonymous with austere-duty knives intended to meet the needs of defense professionals,” said Eddie Castro, CEO of GSM Outdoors. “The name is instantly recognized by military, first responders, and blade enthusiasts for their high-quality craftsmanship and reliable performance. Our acquisition of SOG represents an important expansion of the GSM family of brands, and we look forward to taking the brand to that next level of consumer support and product innovation.”
Originally hailed for the company’s combat-inspired fixed-blade knives, SOG has since expanded its knives and specialty tools to include folders, multi-tools, and gear intended for professional use, outdoor recreation, and everyday carry.
“SOG is a prestigious brand among outdoor and tactical retailers nationwide,” said Zach Henderson, GSM’s Vice President of Sales, “and the company enjoys an enthusiastic consumer base. We are understandably excited to add SOG to our portfolio of knife and utility tool companies, including Cold Steel. We look forward to working with our industry partners to further expand the SOG brand across the professional and outdoor consumer segments.”

GSM Outdoors is giving SOG a bad name. They’re an untrustworthy company with the worst customer service selling an unsafe product. The SOG Poweraccess Deluxe comes with a ridiculous safety issue where the frame breaks with normal use at four weak points and it is liable to tear through your hand. Mine broke in two of them and the awl is broken too. They did not honor the warranty. They did say they would give me a 20% discount but it was a trick. All items on the website offer free shipping but the 20% discount only applied to a purchase over the phone, for which they required inflated shipping. For example, I tried to use the discount to replace my broken awl and they applied a discount of $3.** but added $7.** in shipping which was about the same price as the item itself. Why hasn’t the Poweraccess Deluxe been recalled? How is this company in business?
GSM Outdoors has only owned SOG for three weeks. Any issues prior to that was not the issue of GSM, it was the issue of SOG. I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. While, I have not had a warranty issue with a SOG knife all of my experiences with them have been pleasant. I have 2-3 SOG knives and I have owned a multi-tool from them as well and all of them held up quite well over time. They generally don’t produce hunting knives currently, so I generally don’t buy SOG knives if given the choice between them and a brand that is committed to the hunting market.
I found some fault of my own in this and GSM Outdoors has resolved other issues. The only thing now is that the Poweracess Deluxe should be recalled.
THANK YOU?
I’m glad that there are others who see what despicable crooks they are.
When SOG (they SPELL IT OUT ON THE KNIVES, LOOKS F*”*ING RIDICULOUS) began making the”Pillar,” I bought one. I love it so much, I bought an extras one, and SEVEN more to give as gifts. It really was an awesome knife.
Enter the A-holes:
The bevel isn’t polished at all anymore (but they conveniently forgot to pass on the information to authorized dealers). NOW, they put a matte finish on the entire knife. It looks like the as kind of knife you’d get at a gas station.
The spine? Kiss the 90 degree don’t bye-bye. They don’t bother with that anymore. F”** the customers, right?
But what really pisses me off, is the fact that the original SOG Pillar was selling like hot cakes. How can I possibly know this? Because knife manufacturer don’t put out multiple variations of a knife that’s not selling very VERY well.
GSM Outdoors’d logic? Make the knife look like Stevie Wonder made it, remove the 90 degree spines (something wrote popular in the bushcraft and survival communities), ship production to Taiwan (F*** YOU American employees”, AND I’m not 100 percent positive, but I have very good cause to believe they no longer cryo-treat it. Cryo is a great way to increase a knife’d toughness. Before they SOLD the company to the A-holes, the cryo treat had it’s own section on the website, and now, it’s only mentioned in regards to a couple of holding knives. Bye-bye cryo-treat!
So, yeah, they’ve ruined it. AND THEN HAVE THE AUDACITY TO RAISE THE FRIGGIN’ PRICE!!!
I’ll never buy one of their knives ever again. They are nothing more than greedy schiesters, willing to screw the very people keeping them in business, to save a few dollars… AT OUR EXPENSE!
Try to get the word out. They’re scum, who have no problem doing business with China, s country known for racism, prejudice, and atrocious working conditions, where often, children are involved.
