Henry Rifle Lever Action X Model 410 Shotgun Review

The Henry Lever Action X Model chambered in smoothbore .410 is a heck of a great shotgun.  This shotgun was created to meet the demand of the market looking for defensive firearms. For a .410, this is a shotgun that anyone can handle.  In fact, it is the model that my 75 year-old mother has to protect herself at home.  The Henry X with side-loading gates allows you to reload this as you are firing the shotgun should you need extra rounds.  This shotgun accepts 3-inch shells.

The Henry Lever Action X comes with a 19.8 smoothbore barrel with a changeable Invector choke, and overall length of 38.6 inches and a weight of 7.5 pounds.  The length of pull is 14 inches with no rear sight and a green fiber optic front sight.  Of course this shotgun is drilled and tapped for optics mounting and is a perfect match for a red dot sight.  The Henry X uses a synthetic stock instead of walnut.  Ii is fitted with molded-in swivel mounts and M-lok accessory slots and a Picatinny rail segment on the fore end perfect for mounting a light or laser sight.

This is an absolutely fun shotgun to shoot.  We haven’t really made a lot of modifications to this model as this is the exact shotgun that has been swapped out as the defensive weapon for my mom.  It is light enough for her to pick up and cycle the shotgun easily, and it’s easy to shoulder and point or shoot in an offhand stance with little kick to worry about.

A quick change of the Invector choke to an improved cylinder choke will let you to make the change to Hornady Critical Defense.  This would allow you to fire Centerfire Shotgun Slugs at a muzzle velocity of 750 feet per second with 1x Flex Tip eXpanding Slug (FTX).  This ammo is quite hard to find in the current ammo market, but when you do find it you can expect to pay around $35.00 per box of 20.

We found the Henry X to be smooth, accurate and easy to shoot.  Regardless of age or body size, this is an easy to shotgun to mount to shoulder and use in the field as well as in a defensive way.   It is a great shotgun for rabbit, squirrel and small game and with the right choke a good introduction to wingshooting for dove. The solid rubber recoil pad on this shotgun keeps it secure to your shoulder and prevents even the smallest of shooters from serious recoil.  Get one of these and you will not regret it.

    1. One thing that is important in regards to the 410 is that some states do not allow them for turkey season, Nebraska being one of them. We think that law is dumb and outdated but we agree, tss lays a smackdown on gobblers.
