Hunters: Make a Fashion Statement! Wear Your Orange.
I’m sure we can all remember our first hunter safety course, but do you remember what you were taught? Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keep the safety on, keep your finger off the trigger, check the background before you shoot. All of these are things that YOU can control. But what about the things you can’t? For example, other hunters. An important step is making your presence known. How can you clearly distinguish yourself from game? Well, that’s where hunter orange comes in.
“Blaze orange, or hunter orange is the best way to distinguish yourself from say, a deer,” says Indiana park ranger Brien Holsapple. “Don’t underdo it, not just a cap, not just a vest, but both. We’ve seen plenty of accidents where hunters are mistaken for game. Don’t become a statistic.”
The video below clearly shows that wearing both a blaze orange cap and top will make you the most visible to other hunters, so they don’t confuse you as game. Watch the video and see if you can find the hunters. By the end of the video, you’ll see what works, and what doesn’t.

Students can take an online hunter safety course at www.hunter-ed.com. The training offered at this site is approved by the state agencies responsible for hunter safety education, and it’s the same material that’s taught in the classroom.
