IBEW Lineman Embarks on His First Black Bear Hunt on Brotherhood Outdoors TV

Spring Hill, Tenn. —Dennis Tester, a 47-year union lineman from Bedford, Wyoming, follows the sounds of baying hounds through Idaho’s snow-covered mountains on a hunt for color-phase black bear on an episode of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s (USA) Brotherhood Outdoors TV series, airing this week.

A late snow blankets the June landscape as the proud member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 322 and life-long outdoorsman arrives at Table Mountain Outfitters near Garden Valley, Idaho, for his first bear hunt—10 days shy of his 65th birthday. The outfitter’s experienced hounds strike a scent each day in Tester’s search for a shooter bruin, but the final day finds Tester heading to a blind without the dogs. That’s when he encounters the unexpected, and the game changes.

After the hunt, the cameras follow Tester back across the Wyoming border for a glimpse into a day on the job as he and a crew of IBEW members fire-proof utility poles in brushfire country.

Join Tester on his once-in-a-lifetime adventure when Brotherhood Outdoors airs on the Sportsman Channel Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. Eastern with re-airings on Friday at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at 1:30 a.m. and Sunday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m.

Follow the excitement each week on Brotherhood Outdoors as union members pursue trophy whitetails in Wyoming, bull redfish in Louisiana, stealthy mule deer in Colorado, mountain lions in Utah, and more.
