Jaskiewicz Wins IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Event at Beaufort, South Carolina

Kayak angler takes home more than $2,800 in winnings

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (August 24, 2020) – Dave Jaskiewicz, of Wando, South Carolina, measured a combined total of 50.25 inches to win the final of two regular-season events for the 2020 Atlantic Division of the IFA Kayak Tour on August 23 at Beaufort, South Carolina. For first place, the angler won an Ascend 128T kayak and $1,000 in cash.

Jaskiewicz continues to dominate the IFA Kayak Tour Atlantic Division by adding another win to his previous eight regular-season wins and three Divisional Angler of the Year titles.

Early morning thunderstorms brought rain and strong winds, making for a tough start for the kayak anglers.

“The morning was terrible,” said Jaskiewicz. “I stayed in some small creeks until it passed. Once it passed, the conditions were perfect.”

The angler stayed close to Beaufort and traveled approximately 10 miles in his kayak.

“I wanted to get a trout early so I used top water and then switched to jigs for reds,” said Jaskiewicz. “I spent many days fishing the Beaufort area this year just to prepare for this event and to know all that time on the water paid off is a great feeling.”

Jaskiewicz’s 29-inch redfish was the longest of the tournament and won him the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Redfish award. He boated the fish on his PENN reel, giving him $300 in PENN products. In total, the angler won $2,852 in winnings.

Second-place finisher Michael Kachman, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, measured 42.50 inches to win an Ascend 12T kayak. He took advantage of the Anglers Advantage contingency and added an extra $272 in cash for a total of $972 in winnings.

Andrew Imes, of Bolivia, North Carolina, measured a 20.75-inch redfish and a 21.50-inch trout to take home $506 in winnings, including the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Trout award. Imes fished top-water baits and a popping cork with Berkley Gulp! in the Southport, North Carolina, area.

The next stop for the IFA Kayak Tour is Hopedale, Louisiana, on August 30. Anglers who enter at least two events and compete in at least one event will be qualified for the 2020 IFA Kayak Tour Championship.

The fastest-growing kayak fishing tournament trail in the country, the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour events are catch-photograph-release tournaments, offering inshore kayak anglers from a multitude of states the opportunity to participate in competitive fishing tournaments with low entry fees and minimal travel requirements.
