More than 57,000 Celebrate a Year of Conservation Successes at NWTF Convention and Sport Show

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — With over 57,000 attendees, the National Wild Turkey Federation is excited to announce that its 44th annual Convention and Sport Show, sponsored by Mossy Oak, was its most successful convention to date. NWTF volunteers, conservationists, turkey call makers, calling competitors, hunters and gear aficionados, among countless others from across the country, congregated at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, in support of the wild turkey and America’s natural resources.

“I am absolutely honored to see our Convention and Sport Show reach the level that it did this year,” NWTF CEO Becky Humphries said. “We not only gather to celebrate our success across America’s forests and wildlife habitats, but also to celebrate our incredible volunteers and supporters that are the backbone of our organization.”

Notable guests from across the conservation and hunting industry spoke at various events throughout the five-day convention, including U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, Bass Pro Shops owner Johnny Morris, “MeatEater” host Steve Rinella and many more.

NWTF’s three-day Conservation Conference brought leaders from all corners of the conservation industry, including Vicki Christiansen, chief of the USDA Forest Service, Matthew Lohr, chief of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Aurelia Skipwith, recently confirmed director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. During the three-day span, leaders presented project successes, areas in significant need and the importance of shared stewardship.

The sport show floor contained booths from hundreds of vendors, and attendees were able to test, try on and see all of the industry’s upcoming product releases.

Live entertainment was provided nightly by various artists, including performances by Chris Janson, Rhett Akins and many others.

The NWTF looks forward to another successful and record-breaking Convention and Sport Show, Feb. 17-21, 2021, in Nashville. The sport show will continue to run Thursday through Saturday.

About the National Wild Turkey Federation

When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973, there were about 1.3 million wild turkeys in North America. After decades of work, that number hit a historic high of almost 7 million turkeys. To succeed, the NWTF stood behind science-based conservation and hunters’ rights. Today, the NWTF is focused on the future of hunting and conservation through its Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative – a charge that mobilizes science, fundraising and devoted volunteers to conserve or enhance more than 4 million acres of essential wildlife habitat, recruit at least 1.5 million hunters and open access to 500,000 acres for hunting.
