National Deer Alliance Videos Answer CWD Questions, Help Prepare Hunters for Deer Season

Videos cover chronic wasting disease from a variety of angles important for hunters and non-hunters alike

INDIANA, Pa. – (August 28, 2020) — The National Deer Alliance (NDA) created a series of videos discussing chronic wasting disease (CWD) that is available now. These videos were created to inform and educate those already hitting the blinds and stands, as well as non-hunters. CWD remains an unprecedented threat to healthy deer herds. The potential impact to deer hunting and conservation in general make it an essential topic for all to be aware of as summer turns to fall.

Unlike other known or more visible diseases, CWD does not kill large amounts of deer at the same time, and affected deer often don’t show signs or symptoms until death is near. These factors, in addition to other communication and non-scientific-based reasoning from a few vocal groups and individuals, can leave hunters and members of the public confused, or without a sense of urgency of what’s at stake.

Easy Explanation Via Simple Videos

Deer season has officially opened across the country. With all the effects COVID-19 has had on daily lives, many states are seeing unprecedented fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation participation. This increase means new and life-long hunters alike will need to be informed on the latest regarding CWD.

“We remain focused on educating and informing as many people as we can,” said NDA President and CEO Nick Pinizzotto. “CWD is a complicated issue that requires careful explanation. First and foremost, we need and want hunters to know the role they play in this long-term battle. But it’s also essential we engage others who may not pick up a bow or firearm this season. Deer drive so much revenue and other resources that go to preserving habitat for deer and other game and non-game animals. These videos are a great tool and should be shared with as many people as possible now and moving forward.”
