National Hunting and Fishing Day Invites You to Share the Outdoors

EDGEFIELD, S.C.—The National Wild Turkey Federation proudly sponsors National Hunting and Fishing Day, hosted by Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium, for the 16th consecutive year.

This annual event falls on Sept. 23, serving as a powerful platform to highlight the crucial role hunters and anglers play in conserving our nation’s natural resources, wildlife populations and habitats.

NHFD is not just a day of celebration, it’s a call to action. One of its main goals aims to recruit new hunters and anglers by encouraging participation in hunting, fishing and various other outdoor activities. These activities are designed to promote conservation efforts and instill a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. It’s about sharing the love for nature and passing on valuable traditions to the next generation.

Hunters and anglers have historically spearheaded conservation initiatives. Their invaluable contributions span wildlife management, habitat restoration and scientific research. As more people engage in these activities, it results in increased funding for conservation programs, ultimately ensuring healthier ecosystems for all.

By taking someone new outdoors, you have the chance to pass on traditions, stories and skills that have been cherished for generations.

NHFD is the final day of the NWTF’s Conservation Week, bringing awareness and emphasis to the organization’s national conservation mission and the critical role hunters play in creating Healthy Habitats and Healthy Harvests.

Take the Pledge and Get Involved

NHFD offers an exciting opportunity to make a difference. By taking the pledge to introduce someone new to hunting, fishing or shooting, you can enter the NHF Day Giveaway. It’s a fantastic incentive to share your passion for the outdoors and inspire others to do the same.

NWTF members and chapters across the country are inviting someone new to join them in the outdoors in honor of NHFD.

So, this NHFD, take the pledge, get someone new outdoors, and make a positive impact on conservation and our shared outdoor heritage.

About the National Wild Turkey Federation

Since 1973, the National Wild Turkey Federation has invested over half a billion dollars into wildlife conservation and has conserved or enhanced over 22 million acres of critical wildlife habitat. The organization continues to drive wildlife conservation, forest resiliency and robust recreational opportunities throughout the U.S. by working across boundaries on a landscape scale.

2023 is the NWTF’s 50th anniversary and an opportunity to propel the organization’s mission into the future while honoring its rich history. For its 50th anniversary, the NWTF has set six ambitious goals: positively impact 1 million acres of wildlife habitat; raise $500,000 for wild turkey research; increase membership to 250,000 members; dedicate $1 million to education and outreach programs; raise $5 million to invest in technology and NWTF’s people; and raise $5 million to build toward a $50 million endowment for the future. Learn how you can help us reach these lofty goals.
